‘Ah, Docka Morpher’ is the latest instalment of eco focused digital improv from Raft Of Trash. This second EP sees the group continuing to use the world building game Simcity 3000 to generate live MIDI data for their ever mutating compositions.
As the game is played, the resulting collage of simulated environmental/ambient sfx are converted into MIDI and fed to synths and samplers to form a complex web of sonic association and interdependence. These sound beds are then augmented live with heavily treated guitars and the resulting improvisations form the various 'Zones' on the EP.
These ‘Zones’ are intended to highlight the inherent rhythms and complex dialogs found in both the natural world and the simulations we design. This music is an attempt to contribute to an ongoing conversation about the use of sound as a tool for ecological awareness.
