Taking an archive of over 150, pirated jungle, garage, and hardcore mixtapes from 1994-2002, JC reconfigures them in Burrougesque processes (think, The Ticket that Exploded). Finding new meanings by placing human and machine side by side.

That it is jungle/garage tapes is central to the process. These genres offering up rhythms only machines could of created/played. Multiple, inorganic rhythms fighting for space, yet a space that is constricted in the body of the machine. Chaos meets structure.

JC’s part is to take these cassettes - the chaotic algorithms - and lay them on top of one another, so that rhythms are allowed to circulate around each other and new meanings/movements be proposed. It is a process that could only happen with both elements - human/machine - working as equal.

This release, housed in cassette form, reflects the medium that it manipulates, as well as references the cassette as a technology that allows this cybernetic relationship to take place in the first instance. The recording, reproduction that cassette tape allows - an output becoming and input becoming an output… There is no loss of control, as human and machine reproduce in harmony with one another.
